Hong Kong – VTech Holdings Ltd (HKSE: 303; ADR: VTKHY) today announced that independent research had confirmed its position as the number one global manufacturer of cordless telephones.
The study was carried out by MZA Ltd, a UK based telecommunications and IT analyst firm. Its Global Telecommunications Market Report (2010 Edition) confirmed that VTech produced more cordless phone base stations than any of its rivals in 2009, accounting for 27% of the global consumer cordless telephony market.
“We are pleased to have independent confirmation of our leadership position within the telecommunication products industry, which we have achieved through our focus on innovation and technology. We are not only gaining further ground in the area of consumer phones, but expanding into new product areas such as telephony systems for hotels and for small and medium sized businesses,” said Mr. Allan Wong, Chairman and Group CEO of VTech Holdings Limited.
In the financial year ended 31 March 2010, VTech shipped over 40 million handsets and its global sales of telecommunication products reached US$742.3 million. In North America, the Group sells both AT&T and VTech branded products in major retail stores. Outside North America, the Group mainly supplies fixed line telephone operators, well known brand names and distributors on an ODM basis.
Note: The market share is based on the number of base units (base stations) and exclude additional handsets
